Mary deNeale Morgan colored sketch of San Francisco City Hall, May 1906.  “Witnessed through Artist’s Eyes” an exhibition March 21 – April 25, 2015.

One of a series of 28 historically significant sketches, rendered in early May 1906, recording first-hand the devastation caused days earlier by the great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of April 18th.

This important documentary was created by one of the most recognized and distinguished woman artists of California active the first half of the 20th century.  Born in San Francisco in 1868, Morgan became a leading member of the Carmel art scene after locating there permanently in 1909.
